Wood Burning Technique

Wood burning is such a beautiful technique which lasts, well pretty much forever. It’s a tough technique to learn, but once you get the hang of it, you will love it and probably want to wood burn and personalize every thing.

There are so many different tips, shading techniques and designs to be learned but here is one simple, technique I use often, that does not fail and makes a huge impact on all our personalized items and gifts. The trick is to keep a steady hand while making sure you don’t burn yourself.

These tree branch coasters are a perfect gift for ANY occasion.

Heres what you’ll need

**Before you begin, plug in your wood burning tool, so that it can be nice and hot and ready to use when you complete the following steps.

Step 1

You can purchase tree branch coasters from pretty much any craft store, like Michaels OR you can get them for a little less right here from us 🙂 Just click the following link: Tree Branch Coasters

But if you have the proper tools then you can easily slice your own coasters 🙂

First you’ll want to transfer your image, date or name onto your item BEFORE you try wood burning it. Click here for my easy “Ink Transferring” Technique

Step 2

Once you’ve transferred your image, name, or date then you are ready to use your wood burning tool. The heat burns the ink into the item making it darker.

Slowly and carefully go over the name you just transferred  with the wood burner, using a ball point tip. If you are trying to wood burn a small font, then you may want to use a smaller, thinner tip.

Step 3

Once you’re done wood burning your item you might want to protect your surface with a coat of clear gloss polyurethane to protect it. This step is optional. However IF you choose to give it a coat of polyurethane be sure to work in a well ventilated area AND wear a breathing mask to protect you from the strong fumes.

More Ideas:

Another great idea for these Tree Branch coasters is to turn them into ornaments. All you have to do is drill a hole right above the heart shape and thread a piece of twine through it for hanging.

You can personalize these coasters or ornaments with initials, monogram or special date and give them as a beautiful engagement, wedding or house warming gift!

If you have any questions or comments we would love to hear from you, and like we always say…

Until next time, Happy Crafting!
