The inside of the lid contains two flags – an American flag, and a Marine Corps flag, both folded and embedded inside the lid.
The center doubles as a shadowbox where we’ve added a few items (provided by the Marines) to highlight the MSgt’s career in service.
Centered on top is the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor.
Climbing on both sides is the USMC Gold Anodized Chevrons – which depicts the different ranks reached on his way up to MSgt.
In the center you’ll find an impressive set of medals earned for such a distinguished career.
Directly below that is the Marine Corps Hymn, engraved in a black plaque.
Besides the plaque you’ll see a set of dress blues Master Sergeant chevrons. All of these items are displayed above a black felt background, which compliments the devices, along as commemorate the Dress Blues uniform colors.
The rest of the chest was stained a natural color, while the shadow box tray was painted the same olive drab color we’re all too familiar with. It looks like a footlocker tray we used while in Recruit Training (Big shout out to my Parris Island compatriots).
The shadow box tray is comprised of two challenge coins, flanking a set of Ribbons – highlighting the MSgt’s awards, directly above a United States Marine Corps Retired challenge coin.
Besides the coin, directly beneath the challenge coins is a set of Marksmanship Badges (double expert!)
And beneath that is a touching plaque with the Marine’s going away message.
Instead of rope handles, we supplemented this chest with two leather handles matching in color to the leather straps holding the chest lid open – adding a little flair and tradition to a fellow leatherneck’s gift.
Customary with our chests, we used gold and brass hardware all throughout the chest – to include gold corners, latches, hinges and screws.
