We’re happy to share with you a recent custom-ordered WoodyThings Retirement Chest for a fellow veteran in the U.S. Coast Guard.
As with nearly all our custom orders, we’ve made the chest from 1” solid pine wood, and sanded it with 120-grit sand paper.
As far as color, the customer choose Red Mahogany stain and black letters on the outside of the lid.
This version was made to accommodate two 3×5’ folded flags inside the lid. On one side the American flag, and on the other a U.S. Coast Guard or unit flag. There’s also room in the center to pin medals, ribbons, badges, patches, pictures or a plaque. Heck, you can add a special drink bottle =)
Inside the chest we’ve added a Shadowbox tray with blue felt – to match with the blue felt on the inside lid. Our customers often fill the tray with an expanded version of the items on the inside lid. Challenge coins, unit devices, momentos and much more.
The inside lid is encased in 1/8” plexiglass, as its more durable against cracking/breaking.
In order to add a little more premium feel and look, we’ve added gold accents and hardware such as hinges, box corners and latches to stand out against the darker stain color.
We continued this style by adding two repurposed brown leather straps, held in place with gold tacks, to help keep the chest open.
The chest measures approximately 24” long, 12” tall x 12” deep.
The inside Shadowbox tray measures approximately 18” long, 9” tall and 2” deep.
